These are a few of my personal ideas on "Wedding Etiquette".
First of all, always think and plan ahead. This way, you will avoid a situation like the following (of course this story is just hypothetical ):
You invite people to your wedding shower and then realize that you won't have room for them at the actual wedding (eventhough it is only four people, like what difference could that make). Of course you only realize this a day before the shower, so you need to uninvite them or at least tell them so that they can make an informed decision on whether to come to your shower or not . You know that it is "proper etiquette" not to invite them to the shower if they are not invited to the wedding, so now you have to figure out how to tell them. Hmmmm, what would be the best way?
Secondly, if you do find yourself in the above situation b/c you are a complete idiot, do not, I repeat do not do the following (again just a hypothetical ):
You decide that it IS "proper etiquette" to write them a group email to let them know that you feel bad and that you hope they will still come (ie. buy you a gift) but that they are not invited to the wedding. And you know that it is late notice, being the day before the shower, but you hope that they understand. You don't think it's worth your time calling to explain the situation. A short impersonal email should do. Because, if you actually called them, things might be a little awkward. This way you don't have to deal with it. I mean it is YOUR wedding, right?
What you should do:
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. I would not want to look like a jerk by uninviting people. I'm pretty sure that goes against every "proper etiquette" rule that there is.
Next time you find yourself planning a wedding, keep these ideas in mind. You wouldn't want to end up pissing people off b/c you were an idiot and didn't plan very well and then decided that you needed to take back some invites and the best way to do it was through email.
Of course what the heck do I know, I get uninvited to weddings....I mean that story was just hypothetical.
Stay tuned for more of my sarcastic complaints on how people act these days!!!
